SpendSense Privacy Policy
SpendSense is an expense tracker that reads receipts. It is built to work without an account and without sending your receipts or expenses to me or to any third party. This page explains what the app does with your information.
What stays on your device
The expenses you save, the receipt images attached to them, your currency choice, and your app settings are stored only on your iPhone. I don't have a server, I can't see your data, and I don't sell or share it.
Camera and photos
SpendSense asks for camera access to scan a receipt, or lets you choose a photo from your library. The image is used to read the receipt and, if you save the expense, is stored in the app on your device. SpendSense does not upload it anywhere.
Reading receipts and AI features
Text is read from receipts using Apple's on-device text recognition. When Apple Intelligence is available on your device, the app uses it to pick out the merchant, amount, date, and category and to write a short spending insight. This processing happens on your device through Apple's frameworks. If Apple Intelligence isn't available, the app falls back to basic on-device scanning.
Purchases
SpendSense Pro is a one-time purchase handled entirely by Apple through the App Store. I don't receive your payment details or your Apple ID. The app only checks with Apple whether Pro is unlocked on your account.
Free scan counter
The app keeps a small count of how many free AI scans you have used. It is stored in your device's Keychain so the allowance isn't reset by reinstalling the app. It contains only a number and is not linked to your identity. Because the Keychain can outlast the app, this number may remain on your device after you delete SpendSense.
What I don't collect
- No accounts, names, or email addresses
- No analytics, advertising, or tracking
- No location data
- No third-party code that collects data
Deleting your data
You can remove all saved expenses and receipt images at any time with Delete All Expenses in Settings. Deleting the app also removes the data stored in it, except for the scan counter described above.
Children
SpendSense is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect any information from anyone.
Changes to this policy
If the app's handling of data changes, I will update this page and the effective date above.
